As I put the finishing touches on my website, I had a new bio written. I hope it’s as entertaining as it is informative. Here it is below:
So you’ve made it to Mikki’s website… Congratulations, you rock! Most people assume her name has the same spelling as a famous cartoon mouse and a visit to that website would result in an HTTP 404 error along with an
annoyinginformative phone call about how her website is down. For clearance reasons we cannot mention said mouse by name, but Mikki’s name is actually derived from a Japanese noodle (see: Miki Ramen). However she is aware that her parents either spelled it wrong or added an extra “K” for reasons unknown, but this isn’t a site about cuisine, or even semantics, it’s a site forthe coolest and best evera pretty humble and down to earth production designer that would like to work with you, and hopefully after visiting this site, you’ll want to work with her too.
Recently, Mikki was the production designer on a soon to be festival favorite short film called “Fool’s Gold” which took place in a hair salon that she built in a garage somewhere in the San Fernando Valley. This last year she also worked on Nick Carter’s “Just One Kiss” music video and a web spot for the Sundance Film Festival. The rest of her time has been spent working in the art department under her mentors where she’s refined her skills as a set dresser, scenic artist, and shopper for past gigs that include the film “In the Wind”, commercial clients such as HBO, Sketchers, Puma, K-Mart, Palmolive, and music videos for artists Selena Gomez, Colbie Caillat, and Nicki Minaj. She also keeps herself busy as a freelance graphic artist designing junior accessories for clients that include Hot Topic, Forever 21, Nordstrom, and Buckle.
With an interior design degree from the
pretentiousprestigious FIDM in San Francisco, Mikki previously worked with multiple real estate agents in the bay area staging and decorating open houses and model homes. But as work dried up due to the recession, she sought out something more stable… and started landing jobs in the entertainment industry (Yeah, just roll with her on this one…). It wasn’t until she found herself in Los Angeles working in the art department where her knowledge of space and her passion for the arts finally came together. She continued her education, graduating from the Art Institute of California, where shemasteredstudied Set & Exhibit Design and focused on production design, construction, budgeting, furniture and prop making.Mikki’s fascination with everything from film to architecture started when she grew up in the Philippines. It was there she learned that the crayon is mightier than the pen. Her love for creating things shows in her attention to detail, whether it’s a set made out of wood and steel or a house made out of Legos. As someone with very few kryptonites, she’s regarded as one of the world’s best Galaga players but can admit she’s not very good at killing zombies on Call of Duty. Regardless, if you ever find yourself with your back up against a wall because the undead are trying to kill you or if you’re just making a movie about it, Mikki is someone you want on your team.
