Recently, Mikki designed Nick Carter’s “Burning Up” music video, a promotional web spot for the Sundance Film Festival and a 3D short film called “Midnight Daisy”. The rest of her time has been spent working in the art department under her mentors where she’s refined her skills as a set dresser, scenic artist, and shopper for past gigs that include the film “In the Wind”, commercial clients such as HBO, Sketchers, Puma, K-Mart, Palmolive, and music videos for artists Selena Gomez, Colbie Caillat, and Nicki Minaj. She also keeps herself busy as a freelance graphic artist designing junior accessories for clients that include Hot Topic, Forever 21, Nordstrom, and Buckle.
With an interior design degree from the pretentious prestigious FIDM in San Francisco, Mikki previously worked with multiple real estate agents in the bay area staging and decorating open houses and model homes. But as work dried up due to the recession, she sought out something more stable… and started landing jobs in the entertainment industry (Yeah, just roll with her on this one…). It wasn’t until she found herself in Los Angeles working in the art department where her knowledge of space and her passion for the arts finally came together. She continued her education, graduating from the Art Institute of California, where she mastered studied Set & Exhibit Design and focused on production design, construction, budgeting, furniture and prop making.
Mikki’s fascination with everything from film to architecture started when she grew up in the Philippines. It was there she learned that the crayon is mightier than the pen. Her love for creating things shows in her attention to detail, whether it’s a set made out of wood and steel or a house made out of Legos. As someone with very few kryptonites, she’s regarded as one of the world’s best Galaga players but can admit she’s not very good at killing zombies on Call of Duty. Regardless, if you ever find yourself with your back up against a wall because the undead are trying to kill you or if you’re just making a movie about it, Mikki is someone you want on your team.
